AskInternetSafety.com’s Q&A, Round Three

TipsThis is the third in our series of questions about Internet safety issues and our products.

Worried about Wireless
We have wireless internet in our house with three laptops and a computer. Do I need to purchase this program for each computer, or can I download it to each computer in my house once I have purchased the program?

Dear Worried,
No worries! One license of Safe Eyes covers three computers, PC or MAC, whether they are on wireless or wired connections.

Surfin’ Safari
I am trying to monitor my iPhone and I have a couple of questions about your product. Does your product completely replace the safari application, or can you still access safari? I watched the video and it looks as though your application works as an internet browser, but if it doesn’t complete replace safari or monitor safari then it is kind of useless, correct? Thanks.

Dear Surfin’,
Installing Safe Eyes Mobile does not automatically replace the Safari browser. That hs to be done through the built-in restrictions on your iPhone or iPod Touch. Once Safari has been restricted (using a password) then Safe Eyes Mobile is the only way that phone can access the Internet unless Safari is unrestricted.

Aching for Accountability
I have a question regarding SafeEyes for Mac. Is there a way to have the administrative password for the account changed by a third party of the account-holder’s choice at the account-holder’s request?

Dear Aching,
Yes, Safe Eyes was designed so that control of the account could be controlled by a third party that you can determine, and this feature is available on both Mac and PC versions. Just go to “Usage Reporting” and click “share accountholder’s report with a friend.” When you input your friend’s email address into the skinny form field, before you hit “Add Friend” check the box next to “Allow this friend control over accountholder’s account.” The friend does not need to be an existing Safe Eyes user.

Baffled on Blocking
I am interested in purchiasing your product but have a question. If my child is working on a project and a site gets blocked that I actually want her to be able to access, how easy can I give that access? Can I do it remotely even if I am not at home and logged onto that computer??

Dear Baffled,
If you can access the web, you can change your Safe Eyes settings. Simply go to the Safe Eyes page on our site and login in the upper right hand corner. Once you do, you will see your standard administration menu. From there, select the account you want to change, click on Web Blocking, then Banned and Allowed Sites, then add the site you want your child to visit.

  1. I am not currently using your product. Can it do the following?

I obviously will have an admin who will be gatekeeper over adding and/or removing blocked content but can all users of the PC add content to be blocked? I see this as sort of a shared responsiblity by all to add inappropriate content.

  2. You can always block more content no matter who you are. Administrators are the only ones that can remove blocked content.
