Buzz McClain, Columnist, Makes Safe Eyes His 22nd Tip
Noted author and columnist Buzz McClain recently wrote 22 essential parenting tips for the Ft. Worth Star Telegram, and he made installing Safe Eyes his 22nd tip:
#22 Supervise their Internet use. You can block Web sites with inappropriate content on your home computer, but it seems to be a never-ending battle against a rising tide. SafeEyes is a $50 program that automatically controls how much time your child spends on the Internet, records and lists the Web sites, sends alerts when someone attempts to break the rules, and records and limits chats. See www.internetsafety.com. While you are at it, Google your kid’s name to see what pops up. You may be surprised.
Some other tips we like from this column:
- #1 Have dinner together
- #8 Be the “POS.” (or parent over the shoulder for those that don’t know chat lingo)
- #9 Be absurd and subversive (IOW, play with your kids)
- #11 Make time for spirituality
- #18 Ask about “cyberbullying.”
- #21 Supervise the cell phones
Thanks to Buzz for a great and informative piece.
