By teaching your children some commonsense practices, you’ll gain peace of mind, and they will have a safer, more enjoyable time socializing online.

Educate your kids
• “Talk to Your Kids and Set Limits”

Be proactive
• Check to see whether people are impersonating your children. Search your children’s names online along with variations and nicknames. It’s a good practice to do this often.
• Review your children’s friends list—You may want to consider letting them only be friends with people they know offline
• Create your own profile and share the social networking experience with your kids

Use technology
• Use the privacy and safety setting options on social networking sites, such as private profiles, blocking and pre-approving comments to control who your children communicate with
• Have up-to-date computer security software to protect your computer from malware, viruses, spyware, and other threats
• Consider using software that lets you monitor your children’s online activities and helps protect them.

We still get customers asking if we are 32- and 64-bit Windows certified, so we thought we would share this image and link so people can hear it straight from the horses mouth. To see the certification page, click the image or click here.

Why should I care?

Parental control products that are not Windows 32- and 64-bit compatible can malfunction and cause the protection offered by the software to be compromised. Specifically, parental control software that is not 64-bit compatible will not filter content delivered through a 64-bit version of the Windows browser, even though the software can be successfully installed on a 64-bit machine. Thus, parents should ensure that whatever software they choose to protect their children online is fully Windows certified like Safe Eyes.

In this video, we show parents exactly how kids can access chat rooms and what a potentially dangerous environment they can be. It only takes seconds for a would-be predator to solicit who he thinks is a 13-year-old girl. We also demonstrate how easily Safe Eyes can block chat rooms, thus keeping kids safe from predators like BigMan234.

It’s usually the standard #2 tip in all online safety tips, right below keeping the computer in the common room, but checking browser history to find out what your kid is doing online. Despite this being fairly common knowledge, I see this “tip” repeated everywhere from ZDnet to WiredSafety and CommonSense Media. To try and help clear the air for parents, I’ve created the following video to show just how easy it is to get around browser histories, and show how Safe Eyes solves this problem.

Utilizing award-winning Safe Eyes filtering technology, Safe Eyes Mobile for the iPad will automatically block 35 categories of web sites while also offering the same pinch-and-tap zoom, bookmarks and built-in Google search as the built-in Safari browser it is designed to replace.

Like Safe Eyes Mobile for the iPhone and iPod Touch, the iPad version allows parents to block access to web sites containing pornography, violence, gambling, drugs and other objectionable content by selecting any combination of blacklisted categories from a menu. Parents can also create custom lists of banned and allowed sites, and adjust other settings within the app instead of having to navigate to a website. Enhancements in the iPad version include desktop-style browsing tabs for easier visibility of open windows and faster download speeds.

“The iPhone and iPod Touch have clearly penetrated the youth market. The iPad is expected to be equally if not more successful in the youth demographic. Industry observers are already calling it ‘the children’s toy of the year’ and saying that it will transform education as well,” said Forrest Collier, CEO of InternetSafety.com. “Our new Safe Eyes Mobile edition equips parents and schools with the means to deliver a safe and healthy online environment for young iPad users.”

Safe Eyes Mobile also syncs with the home version of Safe Eyes whether installed on a PC or Mac, enabling profiles and settings to follow a user from desktop to iPhone to iPad. This unique syncing ability ensures consistent protection across multiple devices.

25 million American households watch online TV and movies every week, and that number is growing. With tech growing increasingly mobile (and all indications at CES 2010 are that it is) TV and movie viewing through the Internet is going to grow as a concern for parents right along with it.

Safe Eyes 6 Family Internet Manager, which will be available for download later this month, gives parents the ability to filter according to standard FCC ratings like TV-MA and R.

This is important because the advent of online TV and movies has created a loophole in terms of filtering out objectionable content for kids. While it remains as important as ever to be vigilant about content created specifically for the web such as your standard video on YouTube, shows like Nip/Tuck, CSI, and Sons of Anarchy are bringing increasingly graphic sexual and violent content to the web. And of course there is no “late night” when it comes to the Internet: these shows are available for viewing on their network sites and sites like Hulu.com.

Safe Eyes 6 gives parents the ability to close this loophole by choosing what ratings are appropriate for their child. This feature works on Hulu.com, iTunes, and all major network sites like NBC.com. Safe Eyes 6 is currently the only product of its kind with this ability, representing another industry first. For more on Safe Eyes 6 and its features, check out our preview page.

More and more faith-based communities are joining the fight against online pornography, and we are proud to be recommended by the Hilo Church of God as a weapon in that fight:

It is no secret that the rage of online pornography has gripped our society with a death grip. It is destroying marriages, future marriages, and the innocence of our young people. Over the last several months I have been promoting an internet filtering software called SafeEyes. It’s not too late to get your family on the right track. Let’s take this issue seriously. It is affecting our families, our church, and our community.

Safe Eyes is also recommended by many Christian organizations such as Focus on the Family, the National Coalition for the Protection of Children and Families, XXXChurch.com, Pure Life Ministries and Setting Captives Free.

We focus a lot on how Safe Eyes can help parents protect their kids, but it’s worth noting that there is a rising tide in America of adults who wish to protect themselves from the harmful effects of pornography, and we’re proud that our software is so widely recommended as a great technological tool to help people do just that.
